What we do

The foundation of New Zealand’s health system is general practice, which makes expert healthcare affordable and readily available.

Our GPs and nurses at Mt Eden Medical Centre are in an excellent position to get to know you well and understand your individual healthcare needs.

As well as assisting you to deal with illnesses, we want to help you to maintain your good health. When you come to see us at Mt Eden Medical Centre, we are thinking broadly about your well-being and we are able to provide a wide range of services, as they are needed by you from time to time.

For example, with our focus on prevention, we have a reminder system (“recalls”) for when you are due for routine checks such as smears, cholesterol blood tests and immunisations. Even when referral for specialist advice or tests is needed, your doctor will help you with the process and continue to manage your ongoing healthcare needs.

Mt Eden Medical Centre is committed to the principles of the Treaty of Waitangi – Te Tiriti O Waitangi. We recognise the special relationship that Māori have with their culture, traditions and taonga.

We value cultural diversity and we strive to be sensitive to our patients’ cultural backgrounds.

We believe that the best medical care is achieved through an ongoing relationship with your own GP.

GP Appointments

Our standard appointment length is 15 minutes. You may request a longer appointment (at an additional fee) when you make your booking.

Special Appointment For New Patients

New patients to Mt Eden Medical Centre receive a special, preliminary assessment by our nurses, scheduled immediately prior to you seeing the GP.

Wellman / Wellwoman checks

We encourage our patients to see their doctor for a routine check up, especially if they have not had a consultation with us for some time. This can usually be done in a standard 15 minute consultation and is targeted to your age and any risk factors.

You may choose to book for a more comprehensive "Well Man or Well Woman Checkup", especially if you have a number of health concerns. This involves time with our nurse first and then a longer appointment with your doctor. There is an additional cost for this. Please arrange this appointment by phoning our receptionists, rather than booking on-line.
