After completing an Arts degree and spending four years at home as a fulltime mother, Julie trained in medicine at the University of Auckland in order to become a GP.

She completed advanced training in Women's Health, Child Health and General Practice, and started working as a GP in 1993. Julie has practiced in Mt Eden since 1996, shifting her practice to join Mt Eden Medical Centre in 2002.

Julie often spends her weekends enjoying the outdoors on Great Barrier Island.

Dr Elizabeth Catherwood

Liz Catherwood graduated from Auckland Medical School in 1995. After working in Nelson, Sydney and London she returned to Auckland and undertook further training in womens health and paediatrics before entering general practice.

Since then Liz has worked in Central and South Auckland and at Mt Eden Medical Centre since 2002. She has an interest in GP training and works part time for the GP College teaching GP registrars in the GP training programme.

Liz is married to David and they have 3 young children.

Michele graduated in London (Charing Cross Hospital), and did her postgraduate training in New Zealand.

She has worked in general practice in Palmerston North and in Auckland (Otara) before joining Mt Eden Medical Centre in 2006. She enjoys working in a busy group practice, with the variety of work that general practice brings.

Michele has three daughters and loves travel to France ( the Dordogne in particular) to visit family there.

Dr Sara Ralph

Dr Sara Ralph grew up in Singapore, moving to NZ to study as a physiotherapist and subsequently taught at the Dunedin School of Physiotherapy for 4 years.

She then trained in medicine, qualifying from Auckland Medical School in 1991. After gaining her Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology and having 2 children, she moved to the UK to complete her training in General Practice.

She spent 15 years working as a rural GP in the Bay of Islands and has now moved back to Auckland to enjoy the benefits of city life. She is interested in all aspects of General Practice and in her spare time enjoys music, plays, ballet and travel.

Dr Zoe Suttor

Zoe grew up on the beach in Gisborne before moving to Dunedin to study medicine. She completed her clinical training in Wellington, graduating in 2011 from the University of Otago. Zoe then moved on to New Plymouth to work as a junior doctor, before moving up to Auckland to complete further training at Starship and Auckland City Hospitals. Zoe has spent time working in Youth Health, and has completed post graduate study in Women’s Health.

Zoe enjoys the diversity of General Practice, and in her spare time enjoys the outdoors and live music. She now also enjoys spending time with her baby, Remy.

Dr Catherine White

Cathy completed her medical training at the University of Otago. She has also completed post graduate training in sports science at the University of Auckland.

Before entering general practice, Cathy worked for many years in the hospital in General Medicine and Haematology. She currently holds the position of medical director for Equestrian Sports New Zealand and enjoys all aspects of General practice. Cathy is married with 2 children. She loves travelling and running/tramping.

Dr Sophie Fargher

Sophie grew up in rural Hawkes Bay before moving to Auckland for her medical training. After graduating in 2012 she worked in orthopaedics, paediatrics, and geriatric care in Whangarei hospital, then across the Auckland region. She has also completed post graduate training in Travel Medicine at the University of Otago.

She began her GP training in 2016 and spent several years working in Grey Lynn before moving to Mt Eden Medical Centre.

Sophie lives with her partner Ricardo and their staffy, Cooper. Outside of work she loves travel, gardening, and tramping.

Dr Tony Hay

Dr Tony Hay came to Mt Eden Medical Centre in 1982 when he took over part of Dr Butt Adams’ practice. Tony is a graduate of Otago Medical School. He spent time as a Surgical Registrar in Auckland then practiced in Paediatrics and General Practice while on O.E. in England.

Tony was a GP Obstetrician for 20 years and delivered many of the Mt Eden Medical Centre patients.

He is the resident doctor at The Ranfurly War Veterans Hospital.

Tony is married with three adult children and enjoys boating and fishing, music, photography and Border Collies.

Jan studied medicine at Otago University graduating in 1973. She always wanted to be a family doctor so undertook her General Practice training.

On the retirement of Dr A (Butt) Adams in 1984 she joined the Mt Eden Medical Centre. Whilst enjoying all aspects of General Practice she particularly loves working with children.

Jan is currently a member of the General Practice Council of the New Zealand Medical Association.

Jan and her husband have two adult children and is often seen walking her dogs on Mt Eden.

Dr Rebecca Lawton

Rebecca was born and raised in Wellington and trained at Auckland University, graduating from medical school in 1993. She enjoyed working as a paediatric registrar before beginning her GP training.

Rebecca lives locally and is married with three teenagers.

She began working as a doctor at MEMC in 2007.

In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys cycling, reading and singing in an a capella group.

Dr Sarah Fendall

Sarah grew up in West Auckland after moving from China at the age of nine, and graduated from medical training at the University of Auckland in 2008. She spent three years as a junior doctor in the Auckland region before entering general practice, previously practicing on the North Shore. She enjoys looking after and getting to know families and their health issues over time, and has a special interest in women’s health, paediatrics and chronic conditions. She is fluent in conversational Mandarin Chinese.

Irene grew up in the UK and graduated from Imperial College London in 2008. She completed foundation training for various medical and surgical specialties in Oxford, and then worked as a GP in London before moving to Auckland with her family in 2021.

Irene enjoys all aspects of general practice and can speak fluent Mandarin. When she’s not working, Irene enjoys running up Mt Eden and spending time with her two young children.

Dr Sanja Cook

Sanja (pronounced Sah- nya) was born in Macedonia and moved to New Zealand in 1997 with her immediate family.

She graduated from The University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery in 2010. Between 2012 to 2020 Sanja worked as an Emergency Medicine Doctor across New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. At the beginning of 2021 she moved back to NZ from London to become a GP.

Sanja loves to travel, meeting her husband while backpacking in South America some years ago. In her spare time she likes to cuddle her dog Forest, will enjoy a glass of decent Chardonnay and is learning to play tennis.
